Environment Canada has issued a Tornado Watch for the Pipestone, Souris and Virden regions northward of the Trans Canada Highway. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the Melita, Deloraine and Boissevain regions.

"A low pressure system is moving into Southeast Saskatchewan which will trigger severe thunderstorms this afternoon," stated the Watch. "These severe thunderstorms will then move into Southwest Manitoba by the early evening. Conditions are favourable for these severe thunderstorms to produce tornadoes."

Environment Canada is also warning of large hail up to 6 cm, wind gusts to 110 km/h, and heavy rain.

"The tornado and severe thunderstorm threat should diminish by the later evening hours (Thursday)."
