RCMP has confirmed that one person was found deceased following a rockfall near Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park. Two individuals were transported by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, and a third by ground ambulance. Their conditions remain unknown.

Parks Canada said search and recovery operations continued until dark Thursday and were scheduled to resume Friday morning to confirm that no other hikers remain missing.

Earlier this afternoon, just before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Parks Canada confirmed that they were "responding to a report of a serious rockfall incident with involvement near Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park."

The location is approximately 37 kilometres north of Lake Louise on the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93 North)," an emailed statement read.

According to a statement from Lake Louise RCMP, they were notified by the Lake Louise Fire Department of a rock slide at Bow Falls Trail, located off Hwy 93, approximately 30 km north of Highway 1.

RCMP said that initial reporting suggests there were multiple hikers and there may be serious injuries and/or fatalities.

"Parks Canada, STARS and Fire are on scene," RCMP confirmed.

The Parks Canada statement added that their visitor safety teams from Banff and Jasper national parks are responding, with support from other agencies.

STARS air ambulance, in a written statement, confirmed that "This mission is currently underway," and that "STAR 1 from Calgary and STAR 3 from Edmonton were dispatched to the scene."

"Temporary closures are expected on Highway 93N (the Icefields Parkway) near Bow Lake to allow for responders to work. Parks Canada asks that visitors avoid the area while teams respond," Parks Canada added.
