The Community Playground Project in Kenton, MB, is one of 14 projects selected to receive a portion of the $1 million Co-op Community Spaces funding in 2025, receiving $39,000 in support of their playground project.
“We are so excited to be one of the recipients of the Federated Co-op Community Spaces Grant this year, to go towards our Playground Project here in Kenton," shares KCE committee member, Nicole Wilson.
"It's a team effort for this endeavor from the Woodworth Legion Branch #118, the Kenton Community Enterprise, and many dedicated community members lending their time and efforts to move this project forward," continues Wilson.
"Since losing the school many years ago, the only real play structure left in town is located at the old school grounds. Another set of equipment that is left standing is also very dated. It was time for our busy little town to have a new and improved, safe and inclusive structure for all ages and skills to enjoy!"
"Back in 2019, we grouped together to construct an open-air bandstand for music and events to be held behind the Kenton Legion," she explains. "This structure has hosted many community events, as well as private family functions. We are so excited to have this space in town used, and when the idea was proposed that we install a new play structure just down from the bandstand, the Woodworth Legion was up for the challenge."
"With a generous grant from our municipality (Wallace Woodworth) and much fundraising done by the Woodworth Legion, and of course constant support from our Kenton community members, we were well on our way to reaching our goal of $125,000," adds Wilson.
