The City of Weyburn will host the Party in the Park this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at River Park. It'll include a barbecue and a variety of fun activities for the whole family.
"We've got lawn games, we've got a fun new event this year, those bumper balls. So we're just really excited to have everyone come out and get to know our team and just get to explore the beautiful River Park along with us," invited Communications Coordinator Paige Tenbult.
She said the barbecue, which includes hot dogs, pop, and water, is supplied by Prairie Sky Co-op, with face painting, colouring pages, and sidewalk chalk supplied by the Weyburn Arts Council.
"We are going to be having some crafts, some games and activities for kids through the Mobile Play Park, and that's a City of Weyburn program, and then we do have lawn games like life-size Jenga, Ladder ball, story walk, we've got the giant Connect-4, three-legged races, corn hole, a lot of those activities are supplied by the Weyburn Public Library."
The Party in the Park has been held in various locations over the years, including the Spark Centre, the Don Mitchell Tot Lot, and the Weyburn Leisure Centre.
"We just felt River Park was a great addition to showcasing a different space that our Leisure and Parks Department are responsible for," noted Tenbult.
She said parking is available along Confederation Drive as well as in the parking lot at River Park.
"River Park does have the River Park Campground, so there will be people who are staying there during that time as well, so we just ask that people give them their space, not park their vehicles in the campground area," she explained. "You might see some of the campground attendees in the area and we just ask you to give them their space in their campground. But you'll see all of our events set up in River Park, which is free for the public to attend."
"That parking lot might get filled up pretty quick, so we are reminding guests that are attending to just not park on the grass. You might feel like you may be able to park alongside on the grass around River Park, but just to keep the integrity of that grass, to not ruin it, and also to just make sure that we keep sort of an open, safe space there, we're asking everyone to try and park in the parking lot or in the appropriate parking spots near River Park."
