To tint or not to tint?

The answer to this question depends on the percentage of tint on a vehicle in Manitoba.

After the Morden Police Service issued 5 tickets for side window tints between June 2nd to June 16th, Morden Police Chief Brad Neduzak reminds the community that there are regulations when it comes to the practice.

According to Manitoba Public Insurance, a motor vehicle must not have a tint on the windows to the immediate left or right of the driver’s seat that reduces light transmission to less than 50% or increases light reflection to more than 35%.

“It's a safety factor,” says Chief Neduzak. “Obviously, we cannot see into the vehicle and see the individual inside or what they might be doing or what they might have in their hands when we approach the vehicle.”

Chief Neduzak adds that tinting beyond the manufacturing percentages often puts the tint over the legal limit, which carries a fine of $174.

Speeding tickets

The Morden Police have also issued a noteworthy number of speeding tickets between June 2nd and June 16th — eighteen.

Chief Neduzak says the number is consistent, but sometimes there are increases due to the enhanced traffic enforcement program through Manitoba Public Insurance.

“We just remind the public that we are out there all summer and through the fall as well enforcing the various traffic laws. We ask that you just take your time, slow down, ... and hopefully these numbers can decrease over time,” he says.
