The Cattlemen's Classic is returning to Lakeside Lakeside Golf Club at the end of July to raise funds for the Manitoba Livestock Marketing Association.
This annual event is open to all Livestock Industry Employees, Cattle Producers, Grain Producers and Cattle Industry Service Providers. This event is a fundraiser for the Manitoba Livestock Marketing Association. This year the tournament lands on July 31st.
"We've been in Killarney for about 10 years now and the event has been going on for over 20 so it's become an annual event,” shares Executive Administrator for the Manitoba Livestock Marketing Association (MLMA).
“It started with a very small group of people in the livestock marketing business, and now we’ve got a full house with 200 golfers and we’ll feed about 250 people for supper. We've got commitments from a number of sponsors who will be there with their displays at the different holes.
“It becomes quite a day,” adds Wright. “We've created quite a monster, but it's been very successful monster!”
Annually the profits from this event go directly back into the livestock industry for educational meetings for cattle producers on market projections and lobby efforts on behalf of the livestock industry on issues such traceability, transportation, animal welfare and employee health and welfare.
For this particular year, the MLMA were fortunate enough through the Livestock Market Association of Canada (LMAC) to become full voting members at the Canadian Cattle Association, says Wright. "And with that, voting membership becomes the fairly expensive membership fee. So, the MLMA has committed a number of funds to go towards the LMAC membership dedicated to that membership in the Canadian cattle Association."
“With all the tariff talk and different things that's happening here right now, the Canadian Cattleman's Association is extremely important and they're working very hard for the producers. So, we think it's a really good cause," he adds.
This event attracts 180 golfers from all across Manitoba and Eastern Saskatchewan and sells out every year. Sponsors are encouraged to attend and spend the day networking with potential customers during the golf tournament as well as during the evening event of supper and live auction.
"If you can’t take part in the golfing you are encouraged to join the golfers after the event for a steak supper," shares Rick Wright.
*This event is a best ball format; prizes are awarded in a random draw format with all golfers entered in the draw. All golfers have an equal opportunity to win a prize regardless of their score.
Last year proceeds from this event included a $5000 donation to STARS and $3000 to the Killarney Golf Club. The remainder was used to offset travel costs for MLMA members to industry meetings.
Wright says they've kept the annual tournament at the Killarney Golf Club for a reason; the dedicated support and volunteerism from the community as a whole has been outstanding.
"Without those fifty to 60 to 70 volunteers that come and work at the tournament the day of the event, that means that most of us get to enjoy golfing in the tournament from the organizations. Otherwise, we would have to work that day. The support that we've had from the volunteers in Killarney has been second to none. And that keeps us coming back to Kearney every year!"
Items donated for the live auction must have a minimum value of $250.00.
The sponsorship level will be determined by the value of the item or items donated. Smaller items will be placed on the prize table.
