While much of Canada is experiencing an increase in gas prices, Saskatchewan and the southwest currently have one of the lowest rates of gas prices in the country.

According to GasBuddy, Saskatchewan's average is currently sitting at $1.337 per litre, while other locations in Canada have already seen an increase of five to eight cents per litre.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis with GasBuddy, noted that Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan haven't seen much change in gas prices, but are likely to at some point soon.

"We continue to see the situation in the Middle East has a major influence on global oil prices, which are now at their highest level in the last couple of months," he said. "Although overnight, after the US weighed new attacks on Iran's nuclear facility, oil prices initially jumped, but now have actually declined.

"There's likely a growing consensus that Iran will not be able to close the Straight of Hormuz, that is something that is vital, 20 per cent of the global supply of crude oil does ship through the Striaght of Hormuz."

While gas prices have remained relatively stable, diesel prices have jumped by around 10 cents per litre due to a 20 per cent lower diesel inventory than normal for this time of year.

"Enjoy it while it lasts, many of the other provinces have since increased by five to eight cents per litre," De Haan added. "It may be inevitable that Saskatchewan will see increases, the biggest question is what the timing will look like."
