Today, Morden Collegiate Institute (MCI) grade twelve students will celebrate graduation, starting with pictures at the Research Centre, crossing the stage to receive their diplomas, and enjoying a meal with their family before heading to Safe Grad for one last night with their class at the Access Event Centre.

12 year reflection

Valedictorian Lane Fehr reflected on the last twelve to thirteen years with the class of 2025.

"It's been... I don't want to see a straight shot, but it has been pretty fun all the way through. Morden has been a pretty special place. You get to connect with everybody around you. It's not a big town, not a small town, lots of people to meet, but yet not that many all at the same time. So, I've been able to build up connections with everybody around me, and I'd say even the people who have come in in like the last 2-3 years, I've gotten to know pretty well.”

He described MCI's class of 2025.

"They're incredible people. All of them are going to do great things afterwards here. Everybody has just that little spark of ambition. I think it's really going to take them very far in life."

Valedictorian message

He shared some of his message to his class at today's graduation ceremony.

"I'm going to be telling them that even though we're going on to the next step, this really is not the end. Every lesson you've learned, every friendship you've forged, memories you've created, all that sort of stuff, you can take forward into your life. Every friend that you've met so far, you're going to have friends for life. It's definitely not the end of anything now, we're just taking it to the next step now."

Thank yous

Fehr expressed his gratitude for those who helped him achieve this goal.

"Well, for sure, I'd have to say, my parents. My parents have been very supportive of me. All of my classmates as well. I don't think I really could have made it through without the special people that they are and the encouragement that they all give me."

And of course, the staff.

"I think every single teacher I've had up to this point has been just incredible. Every single one of them are great people, great teachers. I think they've taught me well, obviously taught me everything I know, but I think just giving me that little extra spark to keep going a little further here."

One hundred and twenty-three students will receive their diplomas at today's ceremony. MCI Principal Tania Siguardson put this number in perspective, noting that, so far, there will be 200 in this year's grade nine class in 2028.
