Canada Day is coming up on Tuesday, and the City of Weyburn is again planning for a full day of activities.

“We have our annual Canada Day celebrations starting at 10 a.m. with the Canada Day flag ceremony at the Weyburn Leisure Centre,” said Paige Tenbult, communications coordinator for the City. The flag ceremony will include the Weyburn Legion’s Colour Guard and greetings from the City of Weyburn.

After the flag ceremony, those in attendance will be able to have a slice of cake to commemorate Canada’s 158th birthday.

Tenbult explained there will be a lot more than just the flag ceremony happening at the Weyburn Leisure Centre.

“From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., we’ve got things like bouncy houses, games for children and families, the Mobile Play Park will be there, and then starting at 11:30, we also have a barbecue,” Tenbult noted, adding the barbecue is being put on by Southeast Advocates.

From noon to 4 p.m., there will also be a free swim at the Leisure Centre, sponsored by Doane Grant Thornton.

As the festivities continue throughout the day, many will be looking forward to what is considered the best part of Canada Day, the fireworks. Tenbult stated that those will happen later in the night.

“They’re going to start at dusk, and around this time of year, that’s approximately 10:30 p.m.,” she said. “Feel free to head on over to the Exhibition Grounds. Lots of people know the parking situation over there. Just make sure you’re conscious. It’s going to be dark, lots of kids running around, but as always, that’s just a favourite event for everyone to attend.”

Leading up to Canada Day, there are some activities planned for this coming Friday. Tenbult said it will be a Toonie Drop-In Friday at the Credit Union Spark Centre. This allows for kids to come use the mini-gym, the turf, and the MNP Play Centre. The simulator rooms and batting cages are not included in the $2 drop-in.
