Despite a rainy forecast, the 120th Annual Treherne AG Fair went ahead full steam, drawing in families from across the region for a weekend full of indoor fun, classic community events, and heartfelt celebration.

Adjusting to the weather

While the soggy weather may have posed challenges for setup, volunteers didn’t miss a beat. With quick thinking and teamwork, they relocated the KidZone and indoor market into the arena, ensuring the fair would go on rain or shine. We spoke with the event secretary Ariel Wilcox during one of our breaks, looking into the hard work they all had to put in to make this year's Fair possible.

“It ended up being a great turnout,” says Wilcox. “We really couldn’t have asked for a better crowd, considering the rain.”

Families with children packed into the arena, where the indoor KidZone buzzed with excitement. Volunteers help with inflatable attractions and a dunk tank, giving kids just as much fun indoors as they’d have had outside.

4-H Beef Show, Preparing to Sell

Classic fair fun and 4-H pride

Outdoors, the 4-H Beef Show and steer sale brought strong community spirit and proud young participants. Local farmers also displayed their latest agricultural equipment, bringing the farming roots of the region front and center. Nearby, kids and parents had a chance to get up close with animals in the petting zoo, keeping tradition alive even under cloudy skies.

Before heading into the grounds, visitors were greeted by the local fire department’s vehicle display. Local Captain Shawn Michiels said they brought trucks of all sizes that were parked proudly beside the cattle pens, including a tanker, pumper truck and two rescue vehicles.

“It’s a great way to promote safety in the community,” notes Michiels.

“We like giving people an idea of what we do,” continues Michiels.

Main Street buzz and classic eats

Just down the road, Main Street had its own lineup of attractions, including a Show and Shine Car Show that turned heads. History buffs also got their fill with the local museum offering a glimpse into Treherne’s past.

For hungry fairgoers, the nearby campground canteen served up favorites like cheeseburgers, hot dogs and fries, the perfect fuel for a weekend of community fun.

Rain or not, Treherne’s Agriculture Fair kept its strong roots in place, blending tradition, community, and a lot of heart into another successful year.
