The Airdrie Fire Department says it did not respond to any weather-related service calls during last weekend’s heavy rainfall.
In a written statement to DiscoverAirdrie, Deputy Fire Chief Simon Bradley said call volume remained normal and no calls were directly attributed to the weekend rainfall.
“Despite some localized flooding on some roadways, AFD crews did not respond to any calls that were directly attributed to the rainfall,” Bradley wrote.
“We appreciate that residents and visitors followed the City of Airdrie’s guidance on staying well clear of stormwater ponds and other bodies of water during the storm, and we advise continued caution as water levels remain high,” he added.
Environment and Climate Change Canada recorded 72 millimetres of rain at Calgary International Airport over the weekend—the closest official reading for Airdrie. Rainfall forecasts had called for 40 to 80 millimetres across the region.
“It’s certainly a significant amount of precipitation,” said meteorologist Todd Bate. “This is part of the reason we had warnings out.”
Airdrie is no longer under a fire advisory, according to the Alberta Fire Bans map, which was updated Tuesday. The advisory had been in effect since May 30.
The forecast calls for continued unsettled weather in the Airdrie region, with a risk of thunderstorms and daily highs in the low 20s through midweek. Rain is expected to return Thursday night and continue into the weekend.
