The annual Street Dance was approved to go forward at the latest Estevan City Council meeting, which means the Downtown Business Association (DBA) is getting ready to put that show on this July. The dance was previously held in Affinity Place's parking lot last year, as work was ongoing on 4th Street with the Downtown Revitalization project.
Robert Godfrey, an event producer for the Downtown Business Association, gives some details for the upcoming event.
"We're really excited to have the approval in place for the 2025 edition of Street Dance. It will be taking place this July 19th on the 1100 block of 4th Street and we're super excited for our entertainment this year, which is going to be Brayden King, who hails from Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He is an incredible performer, and he is going to make for an amazing night of entertainment on 4th Street."
The upcoming Street Dance marks the first event to be organized, at least partially, on the new 4th Street layout.
Godfrey says that the design works well with what they're planning out.
"So far, things have gone really well. There are still a few logistics that we're working out with the City of Estevan, but when they designed this street, they really put a lot of focus into making this space perfect for events, and so it's going to make things a lot easier as far as setup goes, closing the road goes. There are also some things that are in place to help us with our electrical connections and things like that. So I think it's going to work out really well this year."
With less than a month left, Godfrey says the DBA team is working hard to get the event ready to go.
"There are some more logistics that we're working through, and we will be putting a call out there for volunteers. We always need help in a few of our key locations, like running our bar or taking tickets at the front. So make sure you keep an eye out on social media for that."
Godfrey says their return to 4th Street was thanks to some work with City Hall to make sure they'd have room when the event took place.
"We want to give a shout-out to our partners at the City of Estevan and all the contractors working downtown. They made sure that they could expedite the work happening in the 1100 block so that we could return, and that's exactly what's going to happen. So we are back at the Tower Cafe parking lot and onto the street, and it is going to be so great to be back at the home of Street Dance."
Godfrey reminds people they can pick up tickets at the DBA's website or by heading to select DBA member businesses. He thanked the City of Estevan and all of the volunteers who helped to make the event possible.
