Several key deadlines and service changes are approaching for Airdrie residents by the end of June.

The City of Calgary will begin reintroducing fluoride to its drinking water on Monday, June 30, 2025. Airdrie will be directly affected, as its treated water is supplied by Calgary.

According to a May 29 news release from the City of Calgary, fluoride will be added to community water at a concentration of 0.7 milligrams per litre, in line with Health Canada guidelines. The decision follows a 2021 Calgary plebiscite: 62 per cent voted in favour.

Calgary completed plant upgrades earlier this year to enable treatment at its Glenmore and Bearspaw facilities. The City of Airdrie confirms on its website that its water is treated by Calgary before delivery via three transmission lines to local reservoirs and distribution mains.

An online petition by Safe Water Calgary opposes the move, citing concerns about health and consent.

Families in Rocky View Schools have until June 30 to receive a $40 discount on next year’s school bus registration.

The school division announced a $70 fee increase for 2025–26, citing inflation, insurance premiums and maintenance costs. Regular bus fees will be $395 per student.

To guarantee service for the first day of school, RVS states registration must be completed before August 1. Students signed up after that date may face a wait of up to three weeks.

Property taxes for 2025 are also due by June 30. The City of Airdrie states that payments received after the deadline will incur a five per cent penalty on July 1, with additional penalties on September 1 and November 1.

Tax bills were mailed in late May. However, the City warns that non-receipt of the bill does not exempt property owners from penalties. The current residential tax rate is 0.00645561, and a home assessed at $556,000 would be taxed $3,589.32.

Taxes can be paid through a monthly plan, at financial institutions, or in person at City Hall. Seniors may be eligible for the province’s deferral program.
