A southwest man will be spending the next couple of months behind bars after his recent sentencing on charges stemming from a hit-and-run this past fall.
Navdeep Saini was led into Swift Current Provincial Court on Wednesday morning by RCMP.
Saini pleaded guilty to two counts: operating a motor vehicle while impaired and fleeing the scene of a crash/failure to stop.
He was handed a mandatory 120-day jail sentence, a three-year driving prohibition, 10 months of probation, report to a probation officer within two days, complete assessments and counselling for addictions, and pay off a $1,000 fine.
One count of having an illegal alcohol concentration in the system within two hours of driving was stayed. The accused was recorded to have a blood alcohol concentration of 340-350 milligrams or 0.34-0.35 BAC.
In October 2024, a 2017 Dodge Journey failed to stop at an intersection and struck a parked vehicle.
Saini reportedly told the owner of the vehicle not to call the police before fleeing the scene. The victim contacted the RCMP and was able to provide a portion of the license plate of the Journey.
Swift Current Municipal RCMP arrested Saini at his home.
