Canada Day celebrations always include a full weekend of fun at Mainprize Regional Park, which begins this weekend with a Slo-pitch tournament and a Cabaret.
"Saturday we are featuring a cabaret that we would love to see everybody come out for, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. All ages are welcome with parents. Our feature band this year is Chris Henderson and the Band. The entry fee is $25 a person and children under 12 are free. We'd love to see you out there," said General Manager Michelle Walsh.
"We've got a little bit of a Slo-Pitch tournament going on this weekend with beer gardens, music, barbecue, cash prizes to first and second, so that's all been registered up to this date."
To celebrate our nation's 158th birthday, a free Pancake breakfast will be held at Pederson Place.
"Donations are welcome because the Dr. Mainprize Foundation will be hosting that," Walsh noted. "Then we'll have an Artisan Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 10 local vendors right there at Pederson Place so you can come do a little shopping, support some local vendors. The day includes we'll have. This year we've got a life-size horseshoe game which I think will be a little bit of fun for all the family."
The Golf Cart Parade will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by the free hot dogs and marshmallows from 4 to 6, while supplies last. At dusk, they will host a grand fireworks display.
"We've got another big show planned, a little bit bigger than last year for celebrating Canada Day on July 1st. We like to do food, fun, and fireworks on Canada Day around here. I like to throw in a couple of additions here and there and make sure that everybody has some fun and basically it's just about spending the day with your family, celebrating Canada Day. Every year is a little bit different and it being on a Tuesday, we hope lots of people come out for the day and just enjoy some time with us."
Walsh said as always, they are hoping the weather cooperates, as when the weather is nice their beach gets quite busy on Canada Day.
"The golf course will be open, our friends at the Dam Store have boat rentals. You can go out and get some fishing in. There are our regular business vendors and one of our new features at the park is we have what's called 'Regional Rides'. We have two 4-seater options and a 2-seater option available and anyone 20 years and above can actually rent a cart, take it out for the day, by the hour, or take it out for half a day. It's lots of fun and a fun way to go all around the park."
She said since Canada Day is one of their busiest days of the year, they are hoping to beat a record this year.
"Last year we were number two through the gates for the 2024 season for park visits, so that is just our counts on our day trip passes and stuff, so maybe this year we can make it number one."
Walsh added the campgrounds are fully booked for the weekend with only overflow available, but there are spaces from Monday to Wednesday in their temporary stays.
"It'll be a really good turnout and we're hoping to see everybody out for it."
