Cochrane’s four-legged residents are in for a treat this summer as Furry Fun Fest makes its debut on July 19, a community celebration packed with activities, demonstrations, and adorable animals, all in support of the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.

Organizer Jana Husmann says the festival has grown significantly from previous years, transforming from a small patio gathering into a full-on pet party.

“This year it’s going to be huge,” said Husmann. “It’s a full-on party for all the dogs in Cochrane.”

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre, located on the rodeo grounds. Admission is free, and pet owners are encouraged to bring their dogs along to enjoy splash pools, a selfie booth, and live demonstrations from K9 Force.

The Calgary Corgi Racers will also be making an appearance, and visitors can meet mini ponies, a Shire horse, and browse vendor booths while enjoying local food trucks. Even Prairie Seashell Pet Centre will be there with their mobile van set up for on-site grooming.

“We don’t really know what to expect in terms of turnout, but we’re hoping to raise at least $5,000,” Husmann said. “Along with sponsorship support, we’re already doing really well.”

While tickets aren’t required, organizers have set up an Eventbrite page to help track attendance, and updates can be found on the event’s Facebook page.

“We just want this to be a fun, free event for the community,” said Husmann. “We’d rather people donate out of the goodness of their hearts than charge an entry fee.”

She adds, “We’re inviting the entire town to come out, we hope to see everyone there on July 19!”
