A new fountain in the trout pond at Mainprize Regional Park's golf course is the first of many projects slated to be completed by the Dr. Mainprize Park Foundation, which was formed last spring to help raise funds for various improvements at the park.

General Manager Michelle Walsh said the group is running the majority of the events at the park for this purpose.

"The group just actually incepted in April of 2024 and it's made-up of our local campers, residents, volunteers, people around the park people who are pretty invested in the park," she shared.

Walsh noted the group also held the first annual Charity Golf Classic in September, raising upwards of $40,000.

"[It] was really well received, and they're using those funds to put stuff back into the park, so the fountain was one of their first projects, and we've got some benches that will be coming in in the next two weeks on the beach."

"They're really working hard on some beautification and just some different things to make our park a better place to live and play."

The fountain helps create water-movement so that less algae forms in the trout pond.

"We actually used to have fountains there years ago that different members had donated and a lot of our golf membership and people that have been in the park for years and years want to see those fountains come back," she explained. "So it's a really pretty piece, but it also serves a really good purpose, keeping that water moving and the algae from growing."

Walsh added that not only does it ensure a more algae-free body of water for the trout, it also keeps the water looking great for the whole summer season.
