A renowned Texas-bred artist will be making a pit stop in southwest Saskatchewan for a live show on Friday evening.
Neal McCoy will be in Swift Current to perform with Morgan Kleiber at the Grandstand for the 87th annual Frontier Days, with he show beginning at 8:30 p.m.
The seasoned singer shared that he was born and raised in northeast Texas, coming from the small town of Jacksonville.
"I didn't listen to a lot of country growing up," he said. "The way I got started in pursuing this career is when I won a contest in 1981 in Dallas, I lived about 100 miles east of there, and through that contest, I got to meet Charley Pride.
"He took me under his wing, he let me on shows with him, started booking me and managing me with his agency."
McCoy detailed that he always fancied himself a singer and that once he got into country music, he was head over heels and wished he'd done it sooner.
"Just expect to have a great time, you're going to hear the hits we've had, do some covers, and just try to entertain people," added McCoy. "I think if folks come in open-minded, when we're done they might say; God dang, that was the most fun I've ever had at a concert."
