The City of Airdrie will unveil its 2025 population total on July 2, following the completion of its latest municipal census earlier this month.

The city council is expected to receive the official results during its meeting on Wednesday. The updated figures will offer a detailed look at Airdrie’s growth and demographic shifts after a 63-day census period that ran from April 1 to June 2.

While the population number remains under wraps until the meeting, last year’s count recorded 85,805 residents — up 6.4 per cent from 2023.

Households were first given access codes to complete the census online. Enumerators later followed up in person with those who had not responded digitally. According to a report from Legislative Services project lead Noshy Karbani, more than 70 per cent of Airdrie homes completed the census online in 2024 — a figure expected to increase this year.

The full 2025 Census Fact Sheet, including ward- and community-level breakdowns, will be released immediately after the council presentation.

According to the City of Airdrie’s Population Forecast (April 2024), the municipality was projected to reach 91,078 residents by 2025 — part of a long-term trend that has made it the fastest-growing city in Alberta. If that projection proves accurate, it would represent a population increase of roughly five per cent over last year.

Census data is used by the city to guide decisions on schools, recreation, policing and infrastructure planning, according to the agenda report.

The City of Airdrie has been conducting an annual census since 2001
