A tornado watch was issued near Hanna two weeks ago. According to Environment Canada, thunderstorms in the Vulcan County area could produce funnel clouds.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued on Friday (June 27) afternoon includes an area of Foothills County.

The alert mainly covers Vulcan County, but extends into the eastern edge of Foothills County near Blackie.

Environment Canada warns that conditions could lead to severe thunderstorms, bringing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

Funnel clouds are also possible.

The alert is in effect for:

  • Foothills Co. near Blackie, Alta. (072620)
  • Siksika Res. 146, Alta. (072633)
  • Vulcan Co. near Arrowwood Herronton and Queenstown, Alta. (072641)
  • Vulcan Co. near Vulcan and Ensign, Alta. (072642)
  • Vulcan Co. near Carmangay and Champion, Alta. (072643)
  • Vulcan Co. near Lomond Travers and Little Bow Reservoirs, Alta. (072644)
  • Vulcan Co. near Milo, Alta. (072645)

These storms are expected to continue into the early evening.

Environment Canada's alert urges drivers to use caution, as visibility may be reduced.
