School is out and the Salvation Army’s summer programming is back!

The summer lunch program kicks off this Wednesday at the Salvation Army Food Bank. Throughout the summer, kids will be able to stop by Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for a free lunch.

Community Ministries Worker with the Weyburn Salvation Army, Nicole Strickland, explains the program is important to many families facing food insecurity.

“We are helping with food insecurities for children that would normally have food given to them at school. Plus, we're hoping it helps families with their budgets, helping it stretch a little further this summer.”

Regarding community support, Stickland says they have already filled all of their volunteer and sponsorship needs.

“We've had a huge amount of people reach out to us already, and we are all filled up.”

Also beginning on Wednesday is their back-to-school program. Strickland says this program, sponsored by Bree Patterson for more than four years, helps families purchase school supplies for the new semester.

Families can call the food bank at (306) 842-2280 to make an appointment until July 30th.
