On May 31st, 2025, the Community Exchange hosted a block party which included the Great Canadian Neighbour Contest! Altona residents stepped into The Chatterbox, a vintage camper, to share what makes their Canadian Neighbour so great! Lots of people stepped in to speak well of their neighbours, including Arlie, a single Mom.
The connection with Linda, her neighbour, began shortly after Arlie moved in, when Linda approached her one day out on the front yard. And that momentary connection has become far more!
When Arlie was looking for a babysitter referral so she could write an exam in her nursing program at RRC Polytechnic in Winkler, Linda offered to be that person. And being greeted with a birthday card and gift that was crafted by Linda and her child makes Linda feel “supported for once.” Take a listen to hear what happens when a stranger is treated as family!
Students from a radio team class at Canadian Mennonite University conducted the interviews and produced the stories.
