The Carman Dufferin Fire Department hosted an Open House on Saturday, June 28th for the community to come to the station and learn about fire safety and prevention.

With a free hotdog lunch and activities for the whole family, the event served as an opportunity for community members to see what is going on in the fire department. Training officer Rick Penner shared that “...having events like these is important for the public not only to discover things about fire safety, but to discover things about us, our equipment, what we can do.”

Penner also noted that technology has changed the firefighting landscape over time: “the advancements that have been made over the last 40 years are just unbelievable” Penner shared. “The...gear that we wear, everything, has just changed so dramatically and so much for the better.”

Fire Chief Chris Lemky shared that the event also featured a safety house from the Office of the Fire Commissioner. The house is a tool for kids to learn about escape plans and simulates escaping from smoky environments.
