As Canada Day kicks off tomorrow to start up July, the weather will be bringing some summer heat down onto the southeast. Whereas the area hasn't seen much 30-degree weather over the past month, the 1st of July will see a return to that heat along with plenty of sunshine.

Christy Climenhaga, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, takes a look at what we can expect tomorrow.

"It does look like it's going to be a hot one across much of southern Saskatchewan, including the Estevan area. Temperatures in the 30s for really the next few days, taking you through the rest of the week."

That heat won't break until the weekend, with an expected peak possibly getting into the mid-30s on Wednesday.

We're mostly seeing sun in the forecast, though Climehaga says a couple of spots may need to watch the sky for thunder.

"It looks like it's going to be pretty clear for most of the day. There is a chance of some isolated thunderstorm activity in that southeastern corner of the province. Very, very isolated though. So looks like generally a pretty clear day for your Canada Day in Estevan."

With a return to 30+ degree weather, Climenhaga reminds people to stay careful with all the heat.

"When we're getting into temperatures this hot, you can get overheated very quickly. So if you do have plans outside for Canada Day, just make sure you have lots of water, you have lots of sunscreen, hats, all of that, ways to take breaks from the heat if you are outside, ways to find your way into some air conditioning for at least part of the day.

"Check on those who are maybe a little more vulnerable to the heat, maybe those who do not have air conditioning, just to make sure everyone's staying safe. And of course, when you get to these temperatures, it is not safe to leave a child or a pet in a vehicle that is not running. So make sure that you're taking care of all of those folks."

Some showers could come through later in the week, around Thursday and Friday, to break up the sunny skies, but the warmth will stick through whatever precipitation comes.
