Canada Day celebrations will be taking place across the country on Tuesday and the communities of Watrous and Manitou Beach will be teaming up for a series of activities and events for residents and visitors.
To start the day, there will be a pancake breakfast at the Watrous Civic Centre from 8-10am.
The parade will begin at 10am in Watrous. That will be followed by activities at the Watrous Swimming Pool, including a Pool Party from 1-5 pm along with a hot dog sale from 1-3 pm.
Majority of the activities in the afternoon will be in Manitou Beach. There will be activities at the beach including a fishpond from 2-5 pm. Also, there will be old-time music and a history exhibit at the Village Community Hall.
From 3:00-4:30 pm, there will be a Dress up workshop and walkabout from the patio to the beach.
Danceland will be hosting a Toonie Tuesday Family Dance from 5:30-9 pm.
DJ Parab Poet will be at the Patio from 9-12.
Fireworks will end the day at dusk, approximately 10:45 pm.
Watrous Recreation Director Chelsea Murfitt says it’s a win-win situation for both Watrous and Manitou Beach to combine their Canada Day celebrations.
“We are so close that we do try, we are going to try in the future to do kind of more things together like this.”
Murfitt noted the parade was in Manitou Beach the past couple of years and going forwards, the two communities will take turns hosting the parade.
She adds that Manitou Beach is a perfect place for the summer celebration.
“Who doesn't want to be at the beach on Canada Day is kind of a holiday. That's where it seems like you're supposed to be.”
With Manitou Beach hosting the Busking Festival on the weekend along with the Simpson Homecoming, Murfitt hopes everyone in the area sticks around for the Canada Day celebrations.
