There’s lots to see and do around Weyburn this Canada Day, with celebrations within the city and at our regional parks.

The city’s festivities begin with a flag ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Weyburn Leisure Centre, which will include the Weyburn Legion Colour Guard and greetings from the city.

Afterwards, cake will be served to commemorate the nation's 158th birthday.

Family fun will kick off at the leisure centre from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with activities including bounce castles, games for children and families, as well as the Mobile Play Park. The barbeque will be lit at 11:30 a.m. by Southeast Advocates.

From noon until four, the pool will be open for free swimming sponsored by Doane Grant Thornton.

Fireworks will launch at dusk; the community is invited to gather at the Weyburn Agricultural Society Exhibition Grounds to take in the show.

Over at Nickle Lake Regional Park, the fun begins at 9:45 a.m. with a bike parade; kids will gather and begin the parade by the Beaver Den and make their way through the park. Bikes will meet up back at the Beaver Den afterwards for judging and prizes.

From there, crafts will be available at the Beaver Den from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Soo Line Cruisers will also be showing off their rides with a car show on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Farmers Market, featuring 25 vendors, will be running at this time as well.

The park will also be judging the Canada Day decorations, and awarding prizes to the top three sites.

Something new this year, Bingo in the Beer Gardens will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Slighter further south, Mainprize Regional Park is starting off their festivities with a pancake breakfast at Pederson Place hosted by the Dr. Mainprize Foundation. This will be followed by an Artisan Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring 10 local vendors.

The annual golf cart parade will depart at 2 p.m., followed by free hot dogs and marshmallows from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or while supplies last.

Their firework show will launch at dusk.
