John Franklin Morrow
September 19, 1947 – June 25, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of John “Johnny” Morrow announces his accidental death on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. He was 77 years of age. Johnny Franklin Morrow was born at Carrot River, Saskatchewan, on September 19, 1947, to Lawrence and Una (nee Young) Morrow. Johnny was the last child in a family of four brothers (Bill, Dusty, and Allan). Up until age 10, Johnny lived on a farm by Connel Creek. Thereafter, he and his family moved to a community pasture at Venn. Johnny attended school in Connel Creek, Venn, and Watrous, until age 16. He then moved out and began working in the oil fields, later potash, welding and manufacturing trailers, and finally with Ironworkers Local 771, cattle ranching, and bale hauling. Johnny married Martha June Sivertson on April 3, 1970. They started their lives together at Thompson, Manitoba, and lived in various places in Western Canada including Fort McMurray, Thompson, Saskatoon, Young, and Watrous. Johnny and Martha moved to Lanigan in 1973 and subsequently moved to the farm in 1975. They have been living there ever since. After settling on the farm, Johnny and Martha had three children: Clint, Roley, and Holly. Johnny was always actively involved in his community. He had his own welding business when he first moved to Lanigan, later went on to farm and then just ranching. He was always doing something, including building his first bale hauling truck in 1994 and working through the winter (usually) with Iron Workers. As his sons got older, they worked on the farm with Johnny, and now Johnny’s grandsons are part of the ranching too. Johnny was a Christian (follower of Jesus) for most of his life, was very active in the church, and held various positions on the church board. One of Johnny’s favourite pastimes was antique tractor pulls. He was first interested in tractor pulls after he participated in the Nokomis summer fair in 1976. Then, within the last eight or so years, he has travelled throughout Saskatchewan to participate in tractor pulls in the province. It was a great joy for him to get to be a part of this and drive his John Deere “R”, and he had great success doing so. In the last few years, Johnny helped start “Lanigan Tractor Pullers” club which continues to operate today. Johnny will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Martha (nee Sivertson) Morrow; their three children, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: CLINT (Lanette) Morrow and family, Kennedy, Emily, and Brock; ROLEY (Karen) Morrow and family, Jessie (Daniel) and children Jace, and Olivia, Cody (Taylor), Lane (Sydney), and Wade (Apryl); HOLLY (Kelly) Gibney and family, Dylan, Mitchell (Keeley) and son Miikka, and Mackenzie; sister-in-law, Sharon Cunningham; brothers-in-law, Stan Sivertson and Darryl Sivertson; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Life will never be the same. He was predeceased by his grandson Dylan Gibney; parents, Lawrence and Una (nee Young) Morrow; brothers: Bill, Dusty, and Allan; sisters-in-law: Vi Siegel and Connie Morrow; parents-in-law Les and Marie Sivertson; sister-in-law Terry Siverston; brother-in-law Glen Cunningham; and by sisters-in-law: Marlene Siverston, and Bev (Bob) Siverston. The Funeral Service for John was held at LifePoint Church, Lanigan, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Dave Hepburn. Others taking part were: Lorne Schroeder and Dave Church, scripture readers; Kennedy Morrow, eulogist; and Annalea Sookeroff, music ministry. The urnbearer was Clint Morrow, and honorary urnbearers were Mitchell, Cody, Lane, Wade, Brock, Jace, Miikka, Jessie, Kennedy, Emily, Mackenzie, and Olivia. Memorial donations may be directed to STARS Air Ambulance (Nutrien Hangar, 2475 Airport Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 1M4).
