The Prairie Playhouse Early Learning Centre in Sedley finally opened its doors last Wednesday with its Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.  Board members, sponsors, and community members were in attendance.

The 30-child capacity childcare centre will be opened to local families for the first time today.

The completion of the facility has been long awaited, as the Prairie Playhouse ELC Board of Directors and community have worked since 2023 to bring a licensed childcare centre to Sedley. The project began with a committee of local parents formed in August of 2023. The committee was granted 30 licensed childcare spaces from the Government of Saskatchewan that November.

The organization was then able to purchase a half-acre lot adjacent to Sedley School, thanks to the Prairie Valley School Division. Ground officially broke in the construction of the facility in October of last year.

In a release sent by Prairie Playhouse ELC Board of Directors, Board Chair Kelsey Morrison says the process of bringing the facility to Sedley was a long road.

“As a community, we have worked so hard to bring a childcare centre to Sedley. It has been a long road as a community and as a board with thousands of volunteer hours, literally building this centre.”

She shares that the facility will bring immense benefits to families in the community.

“Our hope is that this centre will provide opportunities to our community and those surrounding it for years to come. Not only will it provide accessible and affordable childcare, it will provide good paying local jobs, educational opportunities and has potential to attract more young families and business to the region.”
