The City of Morden and Lake Minnewasta’s annual Beach Blast and fireworks show had to compete with an all-natural light show on Tuesday, July 1, with severe thunderstorms putting the fireworks on pause until later in the evening. While the rain and lightning may have put a literal damper on festivities, the Beach Blast was still the hot spot for Canada Day festivities in the Pembina Valley.
Bruno Costa hails from Portugal, and this is his second year spending Canada Day in Morden. “I’m really looking forward to soaking up the beach environment” shared Costa. He also thoroughly recommended listening to local band and the night’s entertainment, The M’Ladies.
Keelyn and friends Jacob and Jack were looking forward to the return of fireworks at the beach. “I haven’t seen the fireworks... that’d be wonderful.” shared Jack. When asked what other highlights the evening had for the friends, the food was top of the list.
Fireworks for the night had to be postponed to later in the evening, but that didn’t put a damper on the Canada Day spirit.
