The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce will host the 30th annual Summer Parade tomorrow, July 3rd, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Due to the construction of the hospital, some route changes were implemented for the summer parade last year, beginning now from the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fifth Street on the north side of Weyburn (see the map below).

"There's ample space for everyone to be able to watch the parade, there are shady spots and sunny spots, and it's family-oriented, something for everyone along the streets," shared Executive Director of the Chamber, Monica Osborn.

"We will be closing off Third Street from Coteau Avenue to Railway Avenue, so there will not be any vehicles along the route, so people can watch safely without having vehicles in the way."

Float registration is free, and while early registration has been encouraged, she said they won't turn anyone away as they line up on Fifth Avenue north on Thursday morning.

"We do stage it just because we don't want livestock beside loud tractors or music. We just want to make sure that everyone is safe. It's great exposure for your business or organization, or if you're having something fun, we highly encourage it. Whether you have livestock, cars, tractors, floats, it's all welcome, and we take into consideration the safety of not only our parade participants but the spectators as well," invited Osborn.

With the Chamber celebrating its 80th year serving Weyburn's business members, they are hoping to see 80 floats in the parade.

"It's just a great way to bring a community aspect and just get people out and about for that day. It helps kick off the Weyburn Fair, which is going to start on Thursday as well. So we just encourage families to come out, enjoy the parade, maybe take in some downtown shopping, as well as finding some other businesses to pop into, explore some new ones, and then continue on your day to the fair and enjoy the midway and all the fair food."

Osborn added a thank-you to the City of Weyburn and the Weyburn Police Service for helping ensure everything is safe and traffic flow is smooth by providing an escort and barricades where needed.
