The Airdrie Pro Rodeo brought big crowds, wild rides and community spirit for another year of Canada Day celebrations.
Festivities started on June 27 and ran through Canada Day, shared Jordan Allison, Rodeo President.
"The first two nights, we just had the cabaret (and junior rodeo on Saturday), the weather wasn't super awesome those nights. We had rain on and off. But once Sunday hit, the weather turned beautiful."
He believes Sunday was the largest crowd the rodeo has ever seen.
"We had just blue skies and sunshine, the hill was just packed. Monday again, a huge crowd came out and the same for Canada Day."
Events that took place at the rodeo included:
- Bareback
- Bull Riding
- Ladies Barrel Racing
- Saddle Bronc
- Steer Riding
- Steer Wrestling
- Team Roping
- Tie-Down Roping
- Mutton Busting
- Sheep Scramble
- Calf Scramble
- Wild Pony Race
- Pee Wee Barrel Racing
- Jr Barrel Racing
Allison even had a banana-eating competition with himself!
"We're all just very happy with how everything went. We think we had at least 2000 every night (during the actual rodeo)."
He shared that on average, they usually see 1000-1500 attendees.
"For us to pull like a 2000-person night, it's wicked. It's a proud moment as we kept hearing all weekend from people that this is their first time out here."
Lachlan Miller, who participated in saddle bronc and team roping (with Tariq Elnaga), shared that he loves to participate in his hometown rodeo.
"It's a good, fun Canada Day rodeo, plenty of sunshine and bucking horses.
Elnaga had the same thoughts, sharing that it is fun to rodeo in front of your hometown crowd.
The rodeo will return next year, with exact dates to be confirmed.
Allison concluded by thanking all the sponsors that made the rodeo happen and all those who attended.
