Last week saw a higher-than-average volume of calls for the Weyburn Police Service, but a fair amount was all connected to similar, but not identical, circumstances. Of the 147 calls for service in the week of June 23rd to June 30th, more than 10 per cent of the calls were connected to concerns about mental health, well-being checks, and individuals who were intoxicated.

The WPS responded to 12 calls related to mental health or the well-being of a person. Four of those calls resulted in a person being taken to the Weyburn General Hospital for further care.

There were another five calls concerning people who were intoxicated. Four of those cases resulted in a person being held in police cells until they were sober.

Driving complaints were another driver of calls to the police last week. The WPS noted an increase in calls concerning excessive speed, stunting, and driving without due care and attention. Police are asking motorists in the city to respect fellow road users, pay attention, and to slow down and follow the speed limits.
