A heat warning has been issued for Vulcan County and parts of Foothills County today.
The heat warning is for all of Vulcan County, and Foothills County near Blackie.
Environment Canada had issued the heat warning, because daytime high temperatures are expected to be between 29 and 35 degrees Celsius, combined with overnight lows near 14 degrees.
Those who live where there is the heat warning are advised to take precautions to protect themselves, their families, and neighbours from the heat.
Those precautions include rescheduling outdoor activities to the cooler hours of day, take frequent breaks from the heat, spend time in cooled indoor spaces whenever possible, drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated beverages in order to stay hydrated, and check to make sure there are no children or pets left in a vehicle.
During periods of warm weather, monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as having a high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.
While there is a heat warning, it is being advised to pay close attention to those who are more susceptible to the more severe effects of heat, including infants, children, seniors, and those with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions.
The hottest weather is expected today, as cooler temperatures are expected by Friday.
Heat warnings are issued when the high temperatures are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses.
