Saskatchewan's annual summer Free Fishing Weekend is set for July 12th to 13th, where everyone in the province can experience recreational fishing on our lakes and rivers without an angling license.
This is the 36th Free Fishing Weekend since it began in 1989. According to a release sent by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, the event is designed to allow people to discover the diverse fishing opportunities in the province without paying the fee for a license.
Environment Minister Travis Keisig is quoted as saying, “Saskatchewan is renowned for its world-class sportfishing, and we encourage everyone to enjoy a truly remarkable experience”.
During the weekend, anglers can cast a line without a license on any public waters open to sport fishing. However, there are a few restrictions to note. The event does not apply within national parks; a valid fishing license is required to take fish out of the province, and all other fishing regulations must be followed, including possession limits.
