After basking in 27°C sunshine on Canada Day, Airdrie residents heading south for the Calgary Stampede Parade this Friday can expect slightly cooler conditions—but still plenty of sun to kick off the festivities.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling for a high of 22°C and sunny skies in Calgary on July 4, with a UV index of 8, rated "very high." It’s a near-perfect setup for parade watchers, though anyone staking out a sidewalk spot should bring sun protection.
In Airdrie, Friday’s forecast is similar but slightly cooler, with a high of 20°C and increasing cloudiness in the afternoon. The day will start sunny, but skies could shift as the afternoon wears on—a subtle contrast to Calgary’s clearer outlook.
Thursday may bring a curveball. Both cities face a 30 per cent chance of showers this afternoon, along with the risk of a thunderstorm. Gusting winds from the north, up to 40 km/h, are expected to ease overnight as skies clear before morning.
The weekend forecast diverges slightly. Calgary is expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers Saturday and a high of 20°C, while Airdrie may avoid the rain with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 21°C. Both cities are expected to stay dry Sunday, with a mix of sun and cloud and daytime highs near 20°C.
Early next week, the heat returns in force. Airdrie is expected to reach 29°C by Tuesday, while Calgary will climb even higher, peaking at 30°C Tuesday and 32°C Wednesday under sunny skies.
Stampede-goers should be ready for shifting clouds, a few early-week showers, and plenty of summer heat. For Airdrie residents heading south, it’s shaping up to be a solid forecast for boots, hats and sunscreen.
