Alberta uncorks new rules for liquor and cannabis use.

Alberta’s government is giving a boost to local liquor producers by allowing them to own, operate and sell their products on large-format bikes, commonly known as "party bikes."

Albertans out for a spin on a party bike or tavern tour will soon be able to sip locally made beer and spirits.

The province is updating regulations to allow small liquor producers to serve their own products on party bikes, removing an outdated barrier that had prevented them from promoting their own brands.

The change is part of a series of red tape reduction measures to the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation, aimed at easing rules for small businesses and expanding responsible consumer options.

In addition to changes for party bikes, the government is making it easier for liquor retailers to set up shop in underused commercial spaces.

Businesses that own or lease large buildings can now establish a separate liquor store within their premises, as long as it has a dedicated entrance and full floor-to-ceiling walls separating it from other retail operations.

The province is also introducing a long-awaited update for cannabis producers. Federally licensed cultivators and processors will now be able to apply for a retail license to sell their products directly from the same property a model commonly known as "farm-gate" sales.

The move brings Alberta in line with other provinces and gives consumers greater access to locally grown cannabis, while supporting licensed producers.

These targeted reforms are part of Alberta’s broader effort to cut red tape, reduce regulatory burdens and promote a more competitive marketplace across the province.
