Tara Sawyer, the Member of Legislative Assembly for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, is excited to serve her riding.

Sawyer is a farmer and business owner who lives near Acme. She has served as Chair of Grain Growers of Canada and Alberta Grains, becoming the first woman elected to both roles.

"I'm excited and I'm humbled and honoured at the trust that the people of the riding are putting in me, I don't take that lightly, so I'm looking forward to working on their behalf."

She went on to talk about her campaign and what her main goals were.

"Recognizing that it was a short timeframe for the by-election, my objective was to speak to as many people as I could in the riding.  I was out every day from 11 to eight, knocking on doors to introduce myself and hear from everybody."

She explained that she understands that a rural riding has different needs compared to a city riding.

"It's just imperative that I'm bringing that rural and also agriculture perspective to the legislature. That's my strong suit, and I think that's what we need."

Yesterday, Elections Alberta announced the official results for the provincial by-elections held on June 23.

"I'm used to having to be the voice of the people I'm representing, so that's nothing new to me. Communication is really important to me, so I plan to have strong communication with my constituents."

She concluded by sharing that she is currently doing all kinds of paperwork, but is eager to be out in her riding and continuing to talk with her constituents.

Sawyer has also been selected for the Alberta Next panel.

The Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills riding became vacant when Nathan Cooper, the former legislature Speaker and a longtime United Conservative representative, resigned to become Alberta's delegate in Washington, D.C.
