Special caution is recommended while travelling or camping in the Rampart Creek area in Banff National Park due to a black bear frequenting the area and exhibiting curious behaviour, including close approaches to people and campsites.
Visitors are advised to store all food, garbage, and items with odours inside vehicles or in secure storage lockers provided in the campground. Fire pits should not be used to dispose of garbage or liquids. All food and garbage must be disposed of in a proper receptacle.
Visitors should pay attention for bears when travelling in the area, make noise when hiking and cycling, and keep pets on a leash and a close eye on children. Carry bear spray and know how to use it.
"Be prepared to encounter a bear at any time in this area," the bulletin also underlined.
Report all bear sightings immediately to the Visitor Centre or Banff Dispatch at 403-762-1470.
