Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a head-on collision on Canada Day that resulted in two deaths and multiple life-threatening injuries.
On July 1, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP were dispatched to a report of a head-on crash between a pickup truck and a small SUV on Highway 2A, just south of the Wetaskiwin city limits.
Police and EMS were able to rescue two occupants from a burning vehicle upon arrival.
A 61-year-old man from California and a 64-year-old woman from Wetaskiwin were pronounced dead at the scene.
All other occupants of the vehicles were taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
A portion of the highway was closed for several hours as RCMP investigated, with assistance from the K-Division Collision Analyst Team and the Wetaskiwin General Investigation Unit.
Wetaskiwin RCMP extend their condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.
