With Winnipeg under a heat warning and humidex values expected to hit 40, Siloam Mission is putting out an urgent call for fan donations.

The local non-profit says its Transition Services team, which works closely with people facing chronic homelessness, is in immediate need of fans to help participants stay cool and safe in the oppressive heat.

“There's an urgent need for fans,” the organization said in an email. “It would be amazing if you could help spread the word.”

Winnipeg is expected to reach a high of 31°C today, but with the humidity, it will feel significantly hotter.

Environment Canada says the heat and humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illness, particularly for vulnerable people.

Donations can be dropped off at Siloam Mission’s Shipping & Receiving area, located at 300 Princess Street, with the entrance around the corner on Henry Avenue. The area is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Siloam's Transition Services program aims to help individuals move into and maintain stable housing.
