Final swim party planned before Innisfail Pool closes for renovations.

The Innisfail Aquatic Centre is set to close this summer for major upgrades but not before one last pool party.

First opened in 1987, the facility has not undergone any significant mechanical or structural work since then.

In April, Innisfail town council approved a project to modernize the building, which will require the pool to remain closed until 2026.

While the idea of constructing a new facility was explored, rising costs led to the decision to move forward with upgrades instead.

The work is expected to extend the pool’s lifespan and improve its reliability, following a series of recent closures due to maintenance issues.

But before the renovations begin, the community is invited to celebrate with a swim and a barbecue on the pool’s patio.

“We’ll have a $2 WIBIT swim, all the pool toys out and a BBQ on the pool patio,” said Grace Wagstaff with the Aquatic Centre.

The send-off event will take place Sunday, July 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the barbecue running from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the south patio.

Admission to the BBQ is included with the $2 swim fee or with a non-perishable food donation to the Innisfail Food Bank.

“It’s a family fun event that lets everyone enjoy the pool before we close,” Wagstaff said.

The pool will officially close Monday, July 7, with construction expected to be completed in early 2026.

The modernization project will bring the aging facility up to code, improve energy efficiency, and reduce operating costs.

Accessibility will also be enhanced through a reconfiguration of the existing change rooms and the replacement of the current steam room.

The updated center will also include a barrier-free, universal change room.
