Austin Fire Department crews spend several hours Thursday evening extinguishing two separate fires burning along a bushline near MacGregor.

The call came in just after 7 p.m., with a report of trees on fire near hydro lines in the area of Road 67W and Road 58N, located within the Municipality of North Norfolk.

Upon arrival, firefighters discover not one, but two fires burning a few hundred feet apart.

Both are along the same bushline and close to a nearby pasture.

“Attack lines from Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 were deployed to extinguish the fires before they spread further into the pasture next to it,” the department says in a social media post. “The fire had made its way into hollowed trees and thick brush, making it difficult to smother the flames completely."

Firefighters stayed on scene for roughly four hours before the last of the smoke and smouldering disappeared.

Hydro called in to assist

Manitoba Hydro crews also attended the scene, clearing branches that were near the power lines.

“No damage to nearby property or injury occurred,” the department notes.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
