The Portage la Prairie Fire Department is celebrating a successful fundraising effort, presenting a significant cheque to the Manitoba Burn Fund following their annual Firefighters Golf Tournament.
The recently held tournament serves as the department's primary fundraiser for the Burn Fund Foundation. L-P Nadeau, one of the organizers, highlighted the event's strong community turnout and its role in accumulating funds over multiple years for a major donation.
Strong Turnout Drives Fundraising
Nadeau expressed satisfaction with the community's participation in this year's golf event.
"We have a really good turnout," Nadeau states. "We're only short three teams to have a full tournament, so we're really pleased with that. We appreciate everybody's help."
Multi-Year effort culminates in donation
The presentation marks the culmination of fundraising efforts spanning several years, with the golf tournament being the key initiative.
This year, the Portage Professional Firefighters donated $20,000 for the Manitoba Burn Fund, to help ensure victims of fires can get the care they need.
"We're raising money for the Burn Fund Foundation. Today we're supposed to present the check... from all the fundraisers that we do throughout the years," Nadeau explains. "We tend to keep the money from year to year, and then we make one big check every couple of years, but this is our big fundraiser."
Looking ahead, Nadeau expressed gratitude and anticipation for future events.
"Thank you for the support and we're looking forward to next year."
