The cause of a fire Saturday afternoon in a building on Commander Drive in Winkler remains under investigation.

That from Winkler Fire Department Chief Richard Paetzold who told PembinaValleyOnline the fire was located in the dust collection system of a wood working facility.

The call came in Saturday at 12:24pm.

According to Paetzold, when crews arrived, they found the fire had spread to part of the facility's interior. Firefighters acted quickly and extinguished the flames

The damage was contained to the building area of origin and the dust collection system.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, Winkler Fire Department has received another request to assist the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) with wildfires in Northern Manitoba, this time near Thompson. 

Five members of Winkler Fire Department are joining seven others from Morden, St. Jean and Altona, as part of a Pembina Triangle Mutual aid district task force team headed to Thompson. One member from Morris Fire Department is also part of the group which will also have part of it deployed to wildfires near Lynn Lake.

According to Paetzold, they will be meeting up on Highway 6. From Thompson they will be deployed by the OFC to several project fires around Thompson. Winkler is contributing a pumper, tanker and command unit to the list of apparatus requested.
