After a rough Alberta road trip that saw the team unable to pick up a win in six attempts, the Weyburn Beavers made their return to Tom Laing Park Sunday night. While rain and lightning would prompt an early end to the game after six innings, it was enough for the Beavers to get back in the win column with an 8-6 victory.
Weyburn struck early with a five-run first inning. Ryan Dauphinee crushed a three-run homer, his third of the season. Chett McDaniel drove in a run with a bases-loaded single, and a passed ball with bases loaded in Alex Alva’s second trip to the plate in the inning put the runs on the board.
In the sixth inning, Trevor Dale would put the Beavers ahead as the rain started to fall, with an RBI single with the bases loaded that brought in two more runs.
On the mound, Dylan Parton threw four innings and recorded nine strikeouts, including a near-immaculate inning in the second, needing just 10 pitches to fan the side, with one pitch missing the mark. He allowed five runs before giving way to Logan Kinter, who earned the win with two solid innings of relief.
Despite a push from the 57s, highlighted by a three-run homer from Silas Hilton, Swift Current couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
The Beavers will be back in action Monday night as they host the Regina Red Sox at Tom Laing Park. The first pitch is just after 7 p.m.
