Airdrie-Cochrane Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Peter Guthrie has officially launched the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party of Alberta.
Guthrie told DiscoverAirdrie why he and Sinclair decided to relaunch the party.
"He was putting forward his concerns about the budget, a 23 per cent increase over the last three years. I was exposing corruption and wanting us to be accountable for it, as a government, and was removed for it. The two of us realize there's no path back there. We think that the UCP is not salvageable, and we don't have a Conservative government right now."
Guthrie explained that, fundamentally, conservatives don't run up expenses and massively increase deficits.
"Conservatives believe in having a steady hand, steady leadership, and being calculated and thoughtful in how they respond, not the disruption and mayhem that we currently see. When you look at our social programs like health care, the consequences of such actions can be catastrophic."
He explained that with the PC Party name available, it made sense for him and Sinclaire to revive it.
"I voted PC my whole life. Scott's the same, and it's just a great fit for us."
One of the requirements to launch a political party in Alberta is to collect signatures, which they are working on right now.
"We're going to obtain probably about 12,000, we will shoot for about 30 per cent above the 8900 requirement."
Guthrie explained that those signatures are due in before November 27.
"We expect to gather those signatures up over the summer and hopefully by the time we're sitting in the house, by the end of October, we will be the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta."
