Estevan police responded to 41 calls over the weekend, laying multiple charges in cases involving child exploitation, weapons offences, assault, impaired driving, and theft, among others.

A busy weekend for the Estevan Police Service included multiple arrests for serious offences involving weapons, child exploitation and assault.

A 53-year-old man was arrested for possession of child pornography following a joint investigation between the Estevan Police Service and the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit. He was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date.

In a separate case, a 30-year-old Estevan man faces multiple charges after a search warrant was executed at a residence. He was charged with four counts of possession of weapons dangerous to the public, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

Police also laid several charges following an investigation into a theft from a local business. A suspect vehicle was stopped, leading to the arrest of three people. A 31-year-old Estevan man was charged with theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and possession of a firearm while prohibited. A 30-year-old Estevan man was charged with mischief and uttering threats. The third person was released without charges.

Elsewhere, a 37-year-old Frobisher man was arrested at St. Joseph’s Hospital after allegedly causing a disturbance and threatening another individual. He was lodged in cells and is scheduled to appear in court in September.

A 30-year-old Estevan woman was arrested and charged with assault following an investigation. She was also found to have outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. She was released on conditions not to contact the victim and will appear in court in several locations to address the new and outstanding charges.

A 36-year-old Estevan man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and found in possession of methamphetamine during a search. He was lodged in cells and remanded for a court appearance.

Police are investigating three separate reports of criminal harassment. In one case, statements were obtained, while in two others, statements are pending, and the matters remain under investigation.

Officers also responded to a domestic dispute, but neither party cooperated with the investigation. Police determined no criminal offence had taken place.

A female driver was arrested for impaired driving after failing a roadside sobriety test. She received a 120-day driver’s licence suspension and a 30-day vehicle impoundment, as she was driving with a passenger under the age of 16.

Another driver was stopped on Fourth Avenue and provided a roadside breath sample, resulting in a “warn” reading. The driver’s licence was suspended for 72 hours and the vehicle was impounded.

A 36-year-old man was found to be breaching his curfew conditions during a night shift compliance check. Charges are pending.

Other calls included multiple well-being checks, one involving an individual transported to the hospital for assessment, and another involving a person who was threatening self-harm but was later offered support services.

Police were also called to several minor disturbances. Officers responded to a liquor establishment where a man refused to leave but walked away when police arrived. Another man at a local bar was found consuming his own alcohol, which was seized and destroyed. He was sent home without charges.

Police attended to a noise complaint in the Trojan area, where a small group was found socializing. No action was taken as the noise level was deemed acceptable. Officers also responded to two additional noise complaints in the south end of the city, where homeowners were warned and asked to turn down their music.

Officers responded to a report of a man and woman arguing on Second Street, determining it was a verbal dispute requiring no further police action.

Police assisted with removing an unwanted guest from a residence and responded to a report of children left alone in a vehicle. Parents were spoken to about the safety concern.

In a separate case, police found individuals camping in a tent in a local park. They were warned about the city bylaw prohibiting living in public spaces and directed to find alternate lodging.

Officers also mediated a dispute between siblings at a residence, resulting in no further police involvement.

A man was arrested and charged with shoplifting from a local business. He was released on conditions not to attend the store and will appear in court.

Police arrested another man following an assault causing injury. He was released on conditions not to contact the victim and will appear in Estevan provincial court.

Officers also conducted multiple curfew checks on individuals with release conditions. Those checked during daytime hours were found to be in compliance.

In total, Estevan police responded to 41 calls for service over the weekend.
