Main St. roadwork
Categories

In May of last year, Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens shared that they had been working with MTI on coming up with a plan to fix Main St. as quickly as possible, with the City doing some work at the time to simply keep the area drivable, especially heading northbound, about a block from the Highway 14 corner.

Main Street is not a city thoroughfare; rather, it's considered part of the Provincial highway system, and therefore, Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure's (MTI) responsibility to maintain.

Construction now underway

As of July 3rd, asphalt restoration has begun on Main Street between PTH 14 and Stanley Avenue. According to MTI, the work is expected to take approximately 3 to 4 weeks to complete.

Main Street will remain open to local traffic during construction; however, drivers are advised to avoid using the road as a through route during this period.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution when passing construction workers. MTI also reminds the public to give themselves extra time when travelling through the area and thanks everyone for their patience and cooperation.
