We're currently being hit with some unseasonably cool air, but soon enough, some summer warmth will return to the southeast, potentially even causing some extreme conditions.
The current forecast looks like the heat comes in later this week, with Environment and Climate Change Canada Scientist Christy Climenhaga taking a look at the shifting climate.
"A little shift in our temperature profile as we make our way through the midweek, especially Wednesday, where it looks like temperatures into the 30s in parts of southern Saskatchewan, just a little bit of ridging in our upper atmosphere, pulling in some warmer temperatures, but very short-lived. A little break again for your Friday before warming up again on the weekend."
While the high heat on Wednesday will be one of the most eye-grabbing parts of the week, Clenhaga says a part of the forecast to watch out for is the very high overnight temperatures tomorrow.
"Not a lot of relief in our temperatures as we move through the overnight period. So we'll have to kind of keep an eye on those temperatures. It does mean that, when you're getting into 30-degree temperatures during the day and staying in the mid-teens overnight, there isn't a lot of opportunity to cool down to get that relief."
"Something to keep in mind, if you don't have air conditioning, you're going to want to find some ways to stay cooler or somewhere to go to get a little bit of a break because we won't have as much opportunity to cool down overnight, at least until you get into that shift into cooler air on your Friday."
As the cold front comes back in on Friday, an accompanying storm may worsen in severity, with Environment Canada keeping an eye on that.
"With warm temperatures, you often can get more of that thunderstorm risk. It does look like we are going to be pretty unsettled. As we get closer, we'll have a better idea of exactly what we can expect for the area. But yeah, it does look like it'll be something to keep an eye on."
With temperatures swinging so much over the week, Climenhaga reminds people to keep an eye out for the forecast and to make sure they can receive any watches and warnings as those are issued.
