A heat warning has been issued for Vulcan County and a portion of Foothills County, with temperatures expected to hit the 30s in the daytime and drop to near 20 degrees overnight.

Environment Canada estimates the pattern will begin on Tuesday, July 8, and continue the following day.

The warning is in place for:

  •    Foothills Co. near Blackie, Alta. (072620)
  •    Siksika Res. 146, Alta. (072633)
  •    Vulcan Co. near Arrowwood Herronton and Queenstown, Alta. (072641)
  •    Vulcan Co. near Vulcan and Ensign, Alta. (072642)
  •    Vulcan Co. near Carmangay and Champion, Alta. (072643)
  •    Vulcan Co. near Lomond Travers and Little Bow Reservoirs, Alta. (072644)
  •    Vulcan Co. near Milo, Alta. (072645)

Environment Canada advises those in the region to reschedule outdoor activities, take frequent breaks from the heat, stay hydrated, and check that children and pets aren't left in vehicles.

"Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated," reads a media release from Environment Canada.
